How to be a beauty editor

December 1, 2011
Beauty loot: a Bellabox beauty sample box is just $15 a month.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to live like a beauty editor, you’ll probably love the concept of recently launched Bellabox. Every month, Bellabox delivers up to five luxury samples of skincare, makeup and hair goodies to their members.

“I was a subscriber to Birchbox beauty sample boxes when I was living in New York,” explains Bellabox founder and creator, Sarah Hamilton. “I wanted to give people that same sense of discovery and enable them to learn about beauty products in a fun way.”

I’ve just received my first goodie box and despite getting loads of products every week to try, the Bellabox kit is choc full of beauty buys I haven’t seen. I’m hooked.

34-year-old Melbourne girl Hamilton, really wanted to open up a whole new world of beauty to her subscribers and create fast and easy online beauty shopping. “In New York and London there are just so many beauty products that aren’t available here,” says Hamilton. “In the USA, online shopping is amazing. I would order a lipstick in the office that morning and it would arrive later that day,” she recalls.

A wonderful idea for the everyday consumer, on Bellabox you can literally try before you buy. Hamilton and her staff trawl the globe for those beauty buys worth having and then theme each box with cute names like December Party or New Year New You for January. You can then purchase your favourite products through the Bellabox site.

Bellabox have partnered up with some big beauty brands like Napoleon Perdis, Alpha-H, Pangea Organics, Gatineau and Phytomer with more cosmetic companies jumping on board all the time.

So, it’s just like a chocolate sampler but with cosmetics delivered to your door. I know, I know, you’re wondering why YOU didn’t think of this, aren’t you? Hamilton is a self-confessed beauty addict with a background in publishing and business and started Bellabox with her twin sister who has a background in digital products and marketing. “We make a great team and we’re both driven and competitive.” The sisters met up in New York earlier this year to hash their plan then together, they simultaneously launched Bellabox in Singapore and Australia.

If you want to start receiving beauty samples to try, register at www.bellabox.com.au and create your own unique beauty profile. For $15 a month (includes postage) you’ll receive your Bellabox filled with products about to hit the counter that personally suit your profile.
