MAC Cosmetics fans expect cutting edge collections and they won’t be disappointed this coming January. Intrigued by divinely eccentric aristrocrat Daphne Guinness, MAC executives approached the model and muse to create a collection for them, to be released on January 2, 2012.
Oh to be so cool as to have MAC come knocking on the door. Apparently, Creative Director of MAC Cosmetics worldwide, James Gager, has had his well-trained eye on her for some time. “You see photos of her out and about and really, there’s no one more chic,” he says.
When the modern fashion icon, Guinness, first sashayed into the MAC offices, everyone was just blown away. “Suddenly, you’re in love with her because she looks so incredibly chic. Those clothes, the hair and that jewellery is all real – it’s visual overload,” says Gager.
MAC didn’t give Guinness any specific instructions other than the product categories required as she proved quite a natural with both colour and texture. “She has a very stylish way of looking at colour and she’s opinionated about texture, so the process was easy,” Gager explains.
The colour palette reflects the cool tones of lilac pinks, milky blues and intense plums that Guinness is digging right this minute. Like many of us, Gager has observed Guinness moving through distinct fashion styles and colour palettes. “Yesterday she may have been into oranges and mandarins and she may change her palette again, but this collection is what she’s in love with right at this moment,” he says.
This covetable, couture collection of makeup of modern textures in handmade hues includes luxe Cremesheen glosses in blood red, cloud grey and punchy violet; milky pink and blue grey nail lacquers; deep grape blush and a darkly divine plum lippie.
